Will
petals find roots
in the wounds where I bleed? Will minstrels learn songs from a tongue which is torn and sick be made whole through rents in my skin? |
Troveranno radici i petali
nelle ferite in cui io sanguino?
Impareranno le canzoni i
menestrelli
da una lingua strappata
e saranno sanati gli infermi
attraverso gli squarci nella mia
pelle?

If it
be your will
that a voice be true from this broken hill I will sing to you From this broken hill all your praises they shall ring if it be your will to let me sing |
Se è volontà tua
che una voce sia vera
da questa collina spezzata
canterò per te
Da questa collina spezzata
tutte le tue lodi suoneranno
se è volontà tua
lasciarmi cantare

Open
Me, O heart of truth, hollow out the stone, let your Bride fulfill this
loneliness. I have no other hope, no other moves. This is my offering of
incense. This is what I wish to burn, my darkness with no blemish, my
ignorance with no flaw. Bind me to your will, bind me with these threads of
sorrow, and gather me out of the afternoon where I have torn my soul on
twenty monstrous altars, offering all things but myself.
|
Aprimi, o cuore di verità, scava
la pietra, lascia che la tua Sposa realizzi questa solitudine. Non ho altra
speranza, nessun'altra mossa.

Claim
me, blood, if you have a story
to tell with my Jewish face, you are strong and holy still, only speak, like the Zohar, of a carved-out place into which I must pour out myself like wine, an emptiness of history which I must seize and occupy, calm and full in this confine, becoming clear ‘like good wine on its lees’. |
Rivendicami, sangue, se hai una
storia
da raccontare con la mia faccia
ebrea,
sei ancora forte e santo, parla
soltanto, come lo Zohar, di un
luogo scavato
in cui devo versare me stesso come
vino,
un vuoto di storia che devo afferrare
e occupare, calmo e corposo in
questo confine,
diventando chiaro "come un
buon vino sulle sue fecce".

Slipping
down into the Pure Land
into
the Awakened State of Drunk
into
the furnace blue Heart of the
one one
one true Allah the Beloved
Companion
of Dangerous Moods —
Slipping down into the 27 Hells of
my own
religion my own sweet
dark
religion of drunk religion
my bended knee of Poetry my robes my bowl my scourge of Poetry
my
final circumcision after
the circumcision of the flesh and the circumcision of the heart
and the
circumcision of the yearning
to
Return to be Redeemed
to be Washed to be Forgiven Again
the
Final Circumcision the Final
and
Great Circumcision —
Broken down awhile
and
cowarding
in the blasting rays of Hideous Enlightenment but now finally surrendered to the Great
Resignation
of Poetry
And not the kind of Wise Experience
or the
false kisses of Competitive
Insight,
but my own sweet dark
religion
of poetry my booby prize
my
sandals and my shameful prayer
my
invisible Mexican candle
my useless oils to clean the house
and
remove my rival’s spell
on my girlfriend’s memory — O Poetry my Final Circumcision |
Scivolando verso la Terra Pura
nello Stato di Ubriachezza Rianimata
nella fornace dal Cuore blu del
solo unico vero Allah l'Amato
Compagno di Umori Pericolosi -
Scivolando verso i 27 Inferni
della
la mia religione, la mia dolce
religione oscura di religione
ubriaca
il mio ginocchio piegato di Poesia
le mie vesti
la mia scodella il mio flagello di
Poesia
la mia ultima circoncisione dopo
la circoncisione della carne
e la circoncisione del cuore
e la circoncisione del desiderio
di Ritornare per essere Redento
per essere Lavato per essere
Nuovamente Perdonato
la Circoncisione Finale la Finale
e Grande Circoncisione -
Spezzato da un po'
e impaurito
dai raggi esplosivi
dell'Orribile Illuminazione
ma ora finalmente arreso alla
Grande
Remissione della Poesia
E non il tipo di Saggia Esperienza
o i falsi baci della Competitiva
Intuizione, ma la mia dolce oscura
religione della poesia il mio sciocco
premio
i miei sandali e la mia vergognosa
preghiera
la mia invisibile candela
messicana
i miei oli inutili per pulire casa
e rimuovere l'incantesimo del mio
rivale
sulla memoria della mia ragazza -—
O Poesia mia Circoncisione Finale

Come
forth from the cloud of unknowing
And
kiss the cheek of the moon;
the New Jerusalem glowing,
why
tarry all night in the ruin?
And leave no word of discomfort,
and
leave no observer to mourn,
but climb on your tears and be silent
like
the rose on its ladder of thorns
|
Esci dalla nuvola di
inconsapevolezza
E bacia la guancia della luna;
la Nuova Gerusalemme risplendente,
perché tardare tutta la notte
nella rovina?
E non lasciar parola di disagio,
e non lasciar nessun osservatore a
piangere,
ma arrampicarti sulle tue lacrime e
tacere
come la rosa sulla sua scala di
spine

Now I
look for her always; I’m lost in this calling;
I’m tied to the threads of some prayer. Saying, ‘When will she summon me, when will she come to me, what must I do to prepare?’ — Then she bends to my longing, like a willow, like a fountain, she stands in the luminous air. And the night comes on, and it’s very calm, I lie in her arms, she says, ‘When I’m gone I’ll be yours, yours for a song’ |
Ora la desidero sempre; sono perso
in questa ricerca;
Sono legato ai fili di qualche
preghiera.
Mi chiedo: "Quando mi
chiamerà, quando verrà da me,
cosa devo fare per
prepararmi?"
Poi si piega al mio desiderio,
come un salice, come una fontana,
lei sta nell'aria luminosa.
E la notte arriva, ed è molto quieta,
Giaccio tra le sue braccia, e lei
dice, "Quando me ne sarò andata
Sarò tua, tua per una canzone"

The birds
they sang
at the break of day Start again I heard them say Don't dwell on what has passed away or what is yet to be. Ah the wars they will be fought again The holy dove She will be caught again bought and sold and bought again the dove is never free. Ring the bells that still can ring Forget your perfect offering There is a crack in everything That's how the light gets in.
We asked
for signs
the signs were sent: the birth betrayed the marriage spent Yeah the widowhood of every government — signs for all to see. I can't run no more with that lawless crowd while the killers in high places say their prayers out loud. But they've summoned, they've summoned up a thundercloud and they're going to hear from me.
Ring the
bells that still can ring ...
You can
add up the parts
but you won't have the sum You can strike up the march, there is no drum Every heart, every heart to love will come but like a refugee. Ring the bells that still can ring Forget your perfect offering There is a crack, a crack in everything That's how the light gets in. Ring the bells that still can ring Forget your perfect offering There is a crack, a crack in everything That's how the light gets in. That's how the light gets in. That's how the light gets in... |
I heard of a man
who says words so
beautifully
that if he only speaks
their name
women give themselves
to him.
If I am dumb beside
your body
while silence blossoms
like tumors on our lips
it is because I hear a
man climb stairs
and clear his throat
outside our door.
|
Ho sentito di un uomo
che pronuncia parole così belle
che se solo sussurra il loro nome
le donne gli si concedono.
Se sono muto accanto al tuo corpo
mentre il silenzio sboccia come
tumore sulle nostre labbra
è perché sento un uomo salire le
scale
e schiarirsi la gola fuori la porta.

The ancient craftsman
smiled
when I asked him to
blow a bottle
to keep your tears in.
And he smiled and
hummed in rhythm with his hands
as he carved delicate
glass
and stained it with
the purple
of a drifting evening
sky.
|
L'antico artigiano sorrise
quando gli chiesi di creare un'ampolla
per conservare le tue lacrime.
E sorrise e canticchiò a ritmo con
le sue mani
mentre modellava un vetro delicato
e colorato col viola
di un cielo serale alla deriva.

I disdain God's
suffering.
Men command sufficient
pain.
I'll keep to my tomb
Though the Messiah
come.
Though He summon every
corpse
To throng the final
Throne,
One heap shall remain
Immovable as stone.
|
Io disdegno la sofferenza di Dio.
Gli uomini sopportano sufficiente
dolore.
Rimarrò nella mia tomba
Se venisse il Messia.
Anche se risvegliasse ogni
cadavere
Ad affollare il Trono finale,
Un cumolo almeno rimarrà
Inamovibile come pietra.
